Sometimes you can tell just by looking at or holding a piece of costume jewelry that it should be signed. Sometimes, you have seen a similar piece signed in the past or the quality and construction are above par. Here is a pair of earrings that sent me searching through costume jewelry books. I found a brooch in the book, Collecting Costume Jewelry 303, by Julia C. Carroll on page 163, that is in the Castlecliff section that has the same unusual construction as these beauties. They might possibly be unsigned Castlecliff from the 1960s timeframe! The metal is silver- tone. A large prong set green plastic cabochon with embedded striping is set at the top. The setting under the green stone is open. A separate section that is almost at an angle is attached. This section holds a bevy of clear rhinestones and white faux pearls. All of the stones are prong set. These are clip- on earrings. On the reverse I noted another element found on high- end pieces, the stabilizer bar. This also leads me to believe that they could be unsigned Castlecliff's! |
Condition: Excellent vintage.
Measurements: 1" long and about 1 1/8" wide. |
